About EasyRent
EasyRent is the first rental platform that focuses on connecting students and landlords. Our model was created as a solution to the struggles students and landlords were facing in the Auckland rental market. We are aware of all the issues that both parties are facing, which makes our EasyRent model the perfect fit.
Our founder, Toby, has worked in the property industry for over three years and is currently a student. Therefore, he recognises both aspects of the problem and has created a solution that equally benefits students and landlords. EasyRent was founded in 2019 once Toby had witnessed the true implications that short-term accommodation landlords were experiencing. The sudden impact of Covid-19 combined with the off-season low occupancy rates meant that landlords were stuck with empty properties and no rental income. Students are the perfect tenants to fill these properties as they can provide landlords with consistent off-season income because they only need a home during the academic year. EasyRent’s 9+3 month model was formed to provide landlords with consistent rent during the off-season (February to November) and the ability to capitalise on the peak summer rates (November to February). EasyRent maximises the landlords’ rental yield.

Why do students need EasyRent?
The rental market as a whole is very much unchanged compared to 20 years ago. The standard lease duration is 12-months with landlords’ “most ideal” tenants being families and young professionals. As a result, students have struggled to find accommodation after their...
The rental market is changing, why not change with it.
Ten years ago, landlords only had the option of a 12-month lease. Five years ago, landlords had two options - stay with the traditional 12-month lease or try renting via short-term accommodation websites such as Airbnb or bookabach all year round. But now today, there...
Students as Tenants – a landlord’s perspective
One of the questions that property managers and owners often ask EasyRent is “are students good tenants?” We think so but you could say we’re a bit biased!! So we asked property owners Judith and Ian to provide their perspective.
